Winery of the Week: iL Geco

'One-woman show' Clarise Sciocatti-Langeveldt blends Italian heritage with her 'favourite little critter, shy but resilient and adaptable' in her boutique venture based in Klapmuts. Trial vintages 2014 and 2015 of her sparkling were praised by critics, as was 2017, the first meaningful production, prompting her to add a pair of stillwines and, from 2023, focus full-time on crafting wines that are 'moreish' on palate but 'less' in terms of intervention and artifice: 'I don't want to turn wine into something it is not'. Exports are a to-do.
