Winery of the Week: Wolvenhoek Vineyards

In 2018, the Belgian Sas family acquired the Wolvenhoek property in Wellington's Groenberg ward, and with it chenin vines seasoned enough to comfortably quality for heritage certification by the Old Vine Project; the cab and shiraz are fully mature at 20 years. With winemaker/viticulturist Duan Brits, work on an own cellar began in August 2020, and the same year grenache noir was planted; grenache blanc and pinotage will follow. Optimal ripeness, hand selections and minimal interference are keystones of the house philosophy.
